Bali is familiar with beautiful beaches, fresh food, and good people, a tropical paradise for holidaymakers. Yet the fun doesn’t stop as the seashore ends. It just starts when the ocean starts. Here are mentioned five reasons why you should go scuba diving in beautiful Bali:
1. Experience the Coral Triangle
The Coral Triangle is an area of the waters of Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, and East Timor. It is also called the “Amazon of the seas”. More than 3,000 species of fish live in the Coral Triangle, and the region has 76% of all known coral species in the world
2. Explore the USAT Liberty shipwreck
USAT Liberty was a United States Army cargo ship torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in 1942 and beached on the island of Bali, Indonesia. In 1963 a volcanic eruption moved the ship off the beach, the ship is located about 30 meters off the coast of Tulamben, and the highest point of the wreckage is just 5 meters deep and goes down to 30 meters, perfect for scuba diving.
3. Imagine yourself among the Manta Rays
Another reason why you should go scuba diving Bali is Manta Rays. These are giant creatures that commonly measure between 3 and 6 meters can reach up to 8 meters in some regions of the world, and weigh up to 2 tons. They are maybe the great rays on the planet, but they are considered painless. Unlike other rays, they have no venom on their spines at the base of their tail and are therefore safe for communication with humans. They can observe only in a few sites in the world, and you will have a good chance of crossing them at Manta Point in Nusa Penida.
4. Spot the rare Mola-Mola
Bali is the perfect place to spot the Mola-Mola, also known as sunfish, and adults can even weigh up to 1000 kilograms with an average length of 1,8 meters. The Mola-Mola is not a common fish, and you are lucky when you spot one. These fishes can be found all year around Bali but especially during the Mola-Mola season! The Mola Mola season is from July till November.
5. Do not focal point on the big stuff – Macro
For lovers of macro and underwater photography, the waters of Bali are full of colourful living things. Indonesia is one of the best dive spots in the world for macro. While diving, you can find ghost fish, leaf fish, frogfish, pygmy seahorses, flaming cuttlefish, and even the extraordinary mimetic octopus. On liveaboard or daily dive trips, the Indonesian underwater will always satisfy macro addict divers! Bali has everything an ocean lover can dream of: gorgeous Manta Rays, the untouchable Mola-Mola (sunfish), magical wreckage ships, thousands of macro creatures, and so much more.
